Ann Bancroft

(Author, Teacher and Adventurer)

Ann Bancroft is the first known woman in history to cross the ice to the North and South Poles. In 1986, Ann dogsledded 1,000 miles (1,600 km) from the Northwest Territories in Canada to the North Pole as the only female member of the Steger International Polar Expedition. In 1993, she led the American Women’s Expedition to the South Pole, a 67-day expedition of 660 miles (1,060 km) on skis by four women. Most recently, in February 2001, Ann and Liv Arnesen from Norway became the first team of women to ski across Antarctica’s landmass. (read more)

Liv Arnesen

(Lecturer, Educator and Explorer)

In November 2012, Liv Arnesen and Ann Bancroft renowned polar explorers and educators will lead a team of six women, from six continents, on an 800 mile, 80-day long expedition to the South Pole.

Their goal is to reach 2 million classrooms and 50 million youth, and highlight the essential role of education in making sustainable changes.  Environment, currently emphasizing the fresh water crisis and the empowerment of girls and women to achieve their dreams will be in their agenda.

Riina Vuorikari

(In-house Expert)

Dr. Riina Vuorikari has actively worked in the field of education since 2000; her main interest is dealing with issues related to the adoption of new technologies and working methods in schools, and in teachers’ professional development.

She works as an in-house expert in European Schoolnet, a network of 30 Ministries of Education in Europe. Between 2009-2011, she managed an industry-led project where more than 8’000 netbooks were implemented in schools in six different countries and oversaw its evaluation  (Acer- European Schoolnet Educational Netbook Pilot).

Rui Lima e Silva

(Primary School Teacher)

Former Winner of Microsoft Partners in Learning Innovative Educators’ Competition
Primary School teacher since 2001, School coordinator since 2008 and Eco-School Coordinator since 2004 at Colégio Monte Flor (Primary School), Portugal.

Specialized in Math and Sciences and Master Degree in School Administration and Organization, in recent years he has been involved in several Etwinning and Challenge 20/20 partnership projects, having won the Etwinning National Award 2010  and the 1st Prize of Ilídio Pinho Foundation 2009. He is also involved in two projects related to Digital Resources developed by the European Schoolnet: the ASPECT and eQNet.

In 2011 with the project Eco-Partnerships he was 1st Runner-Up in the category of Collaboration at the Microsoft Partners in Learning European Forum, in Moscow and at the Microsoft Partners in Learning Global Forum in Washington, DC.
